PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The PRB is Tajikistan’s largest river basin. It is economically vital to the country as it includes the majority of Khatlon province, which is the country’s most populated and agriculturally productive province. However, districts in the PRB are among the poorest in the country and most exposed and vulnerable to the adverse impacts of climate change. ADB support for enhanced WRM in the PRB commenced in 2017 with additional financing – including a grant component provided by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) – was approved in 2018. This additional financing expands the scope of the existing project to include capacity building and institutional development of the State Agency for Hydrometeorology of Tajikistan (Hydromet) to provide quality climate services for WRM, agricultural production, and disaster risk reduction in the PRB.
